"A Tourist's Guide to Love" is a romantic film that tells the story of Amanda (Rachel Leigh Cook), an American woman who travels to Vietnam to mend her broken heart after a sudden breakup with her ex-boyfriend. The screenwriter, Eirene Tran Donohue, shared with Netflix that the script was inspired by her own personal experience of traveling to Vietnam after a difficult breakup. As a female screenwriter with Southeast Asian roots, she believes that now is the ideal time to tell stories that showcase the love, joy, and unique moments of Southeast Asia while also changing the perspective of Vietnam as a rapidly developing and modern country with captivating stories to share.
Director Steven K. Tsuchida and his crew explored many famous Vietnamese landmarks, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hoi An, and Ha Giang, during the filming process, providing viewers with an immersive experience of the beautiful Vietnamese scenery.
The lead role is played by Rachel Leigh Cook, who starred in the popular 1999 romantic comedy "She's All That," and has appeared in numerous films and TV series, including the Netflix production "Love Guaranteed" (2020).
