I still remember that day when my friends showed us the vibrant colorful daily life deep in the narrow alley of the Ho Chi Minh China Town market - Chợ Lớn. Under the absentee and peaceful alleys of the local market, we shared a cup of coffee and a dish of spring rolls and talked about how the Chinese Community has changed and had a major effect on Saigon from time to time.
We can not help but be amazed at how delicious the spring rolls dish is and why it is so many for a single dish. The first thought that comes to our mind is to put this enjoyable meal as a breakfast for the Tale of Cho Lon tour to show a glimpse of the splendid Chinese gourmet. And it has been our Saigon Walkers's favorite stop since December of 2023.
The shop belongs to Mrs. Ngoc, originated from Teo Chew, and has been in operation for 3 years. Mostly she is only selling for the families in the surrounding community, to have a hurry-up breakfast before getting into the busy life of a new day. That's why Mrs. Ngoc's shop closes early, at around 9 a.m. and then she and her husband will hurry up to get a part-time job for a bit of extra money for the family.
When we talked about integrating her shop as one of the stops on the journey to experience the daily life in Chinatown. She is always happy to welcome us to her shop even though it means she has to stay up late due to the program's itinerary. "It's not whether about the extra dish or closing early or late, I want to spread our Cho Lon specialties to others as well as meet new people from all over the world as well" - Mrs. Ngoc shared
We are fortunate to have had the chance to know her and I bet her shop would leave an unforgettable mark in the memories and your belly of all the walkers that join Tale of Cho Lon. What about all the Saigon Walkers out there, do you want to have a chance to come by her shop while you have a free morning in Ho Chi Minh City?
